Frederick Carr
Fred started learning carpentry from his father while growing up on a dairy farm in upstate, NY. He graduated with a BA in Anthropology from Buffalo State University in 1996 and subsequently spent a number of years in both NY and MA working in social services with at-risk youth and adults with mental illness. Meanwhile, Fred bought, renovated and restored six historic homes--five in Jamaica Plain, MA and one in Fairlee, VT--while growing his referral only carpentry business in the metro Boston area. He founded Carr Carpentry and Restoration in 2002.
Fred has traveled throughout North America, and countries in Latin America, Europe, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. He spent a year living in West Bank/Gaza where he worked at the Princess Basma Institute in East Jerusalem teaching and mentoring individuals with disabilities through a sheltered carpentry workshop program. Fred spends his spare time with his family, and enjoys cooking, skiing, mountain biking, and of course working on his own historic properties in Boston and Vermont.
